Goathland Parish Council consists of seven councillors:
Jason Wood, Chairman
I was born in Whitby moving to Goathland not long after when my parents bought a business within the village.
I attended Goathland School before commencing my secondary education in Whitby, continuing further learning at Scarborough Technical college.
I have worked in the village for many years in the hospitality industry undertaking many varied roles.
I assist in the running of my parents business as well as operating an online store and holiday cottage.
I have had many years of life experience, working for North Yorkshire Police, the Ambulance service and as a school governor. I have been on the Parish Council for many years and undertaken the role as Chair several times.
Andy Thompson, Vice Chairman
I have lived in the Goathland parish for the last 4 years. Originally from Great Ayton, I moved to Manchester and then London, working in marketing for 30 years, before moving back to North Yorkshire.
We now run 3 self catering holiday cottages as well as the local monthly farmers market. Hobbies include cycling, cooking and travelling.
Becky Hewitt, Councillor
Born in Scarborough, I returned to the area, moving to Goathland, in 2021.
I am self-employed, providing Human Resources/business consultancy and I also teach yoga weekly at Goathland Hut.
I am a keen gardener and love being back in this part of North Yorkshire.
Hannah Page, Councillor
Jayne Harker, Councillor
I was born in Goathland and have lived here for most of my life.
I am now retired having worked in local catering establishments for many years then a total career change working for mental health and independent living.
I am very passionate about country life and spend many hours walking my dogs around our beautiful village and surrounding areas.
I’m always happy to discuss any issues that you may have that you feel the parish council may be able to help with.
Martin Holland, Councillor
I have been in Beck Hole since 1985 and worked at Boulby Mine until 2020. There I was part of the underground engineering team and for the last twenty years as part of the counselling for post trauma support provision.
I am passionate about all things Goathland and feel my brushes with agriculture over the years has given me some insight into the issues our hardworking farmers and land managers face.
Phil Newton, Councillor
I was born in Whitby and my family abd I moved to Goathland 12 years ago, first living at Long Meadow, Darnholm, then, 2 years ago moving to Wheathill.
I’ve worked in a variety of electrical roles, completing my apprenticeship at RAF Fylingdales and I am currently employed as an electrical foreman in charge of the winding engines at Boulby mine. I’ve also been a member of the Goathland Volunteer Fire Service for the past 7 years.
I feel my local knowledge and ability to see both sides of an argument will allow me to be a fair councillor and give a little back to the community that is Goathland.
